THEME

Theme is defined as a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work that may be stated directly or indirectly.

The theme of Graduation Day is deciding who you trust enough to help you complete your task. Before Cia left for Tosu City and The Testing, her father's last words of advice were, "Trust no one." But when Cia is presented with a task that she knows she can not complete alone, she must disobey her father's advice, and instead decide who she really trusts. Cia must ignore her instinct to take down the Testing alone and single out those who will help her without raising suspicion. Most importantly, those Cia chooses to trust must trust her as well. "When you trust me with your secrets, I'll trust you with mine." (Charbonneau. Page 76) The theme of Graduation Day is important because the theme represents the true moral/message of the story that the author is trying to convey.
